Important information for trials:
- We ask that players trialling for JSC teams wear their summer comp shirt from last season.
- Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the advertised trial start time to register at the sign-in tables.
- All players 16 years or older need to show proof of vaccination to attend trials.
- All parents dropping children to the trials need to show proof of vaccination if accompanying their child to the sign-in tables.
- The trials will be a non-spectator event.
- From the trials, Manly Touch will name a Representative ‘A’ team.
- Based on their performance at trials, Manly Touch will aim to make contact with those players that missed out on a position in the ‘A’ side to form Development squads for 10, 12 and 14 year age groups. This will be subject to coaching personnel availability, other Associations also selecting Development teams, and the ability to run a Development program (NOTE: Development teams will not be attending JSC).
Any questions please contact our Junior Representative Director Craig Lowe on [email protected].
manlytouchKeymasterThis year Manly Touch broke all records in registrations for our Junior Summer Competition. We were overwhelmed with the number of teams registering with most age groups being oversubscribed within minutes of registrations opening.
Unfortunately, we were left with a situation where more than 1,000 children were not able to find a spot in our competition. Over the last week our committee has worked on a plan to get those teams who missed out on a spot into their respective divisions.
As a result, we would like to advise everyone that we have some good news regarding the upcoming Junior Summer Competition. We can advise that:
ANNOUNCEMENT #1: ALL TEAMS CURRENTLY REGISTERED AND ALL TEAMS ON THE WAITLIST WILL BE ABLE TO ENTER & PLAY THIS SEASON!
ANNOUNCEMENT #2: ALL U7 & U9 GAMES WILL BE MOVED TO THURSDAY AFTERNOONS
There are a number of reasons for the move to having the competition run over two days:
- The current format of all age groups playing on Friday evenings has now become unfeasible. We have outgrown the fields available for the evening with the number of teams that want to play in our competition.
- If we continued to just play on Friday evenings, up to 100 teams will miss out on playing touch football this season.
- That equates to approximately 1,000 kids not being able to play touch football this season.
- As a community sport, we feel that not allowing 1,000 kids to play is just not fair, and changes needed to be made to allow everyone to play and give us scope to grow the competition into the future.
Further general information regarding the upcoming Junior Summer Competition:
- All under 7 games will be played at Nolan Reserve North Manly on Thursdays at 4:10pm
- All under 9 games will be played at Nolan Reserve North Manly on Thursdays at 4:45pm and 5:20pm
- All under 7 and 9 games will have 2 x 15-minute halves with a 2 minute half time break
- Games on Friday evenings will start from 4:10pm at both Nolan Reserve and Passmore Reserve
- There will be 8 times slots on Friday evening at Nolan Reserve. Last time slot will be 8:40pm
- There will be 5 time slots on Friday evening at Passmore Reserve. Last time slot will be 6:40pm
- All under 11 B and C divisions will have 2 x 15-minute halves with a 2-minute half time break
- All under 11 A division, under 13, under 15 and under 17 games will have 2 x 17-minute halves with a 2-minute half time break
All waitlist teams will be contacted by Manly Touch over the next few days to organise entering your team into our MySideline online registration system and payment of fees. From there, a draft draw will be formulated and posted to our website.
If you have any issues, please contact our administration manager Lara Long on [email protected]. As you can imagine we have been swamped with inquiries. Please be patient with a response from the club as it is an extremely busy time at the club.
Again we thank everyone for their support. We can’t wait to see all the kids playing touch footy soon.
manlytouchKeymasterMWTA would like to update everyone regarding our upcoming Junior Summer Competition.
What an amazing week we have just witnessed here at MWTA. Staggering amounts of junior team registrations hitting our system each night. Whole divisions filling up in literally seconds after the registration portal was open at 7:00pm nightly. To give everyone some perspective – we had just under 280 teams register to our online system in under 12 minutes combined, across the 5 registration nights. We also had just under 120 teams complete the waitlist.
We are extremely excited with the team numbers but now the challenge of coming up with the structure of the junior competition begins. We will endeavour to get as many teams entered into our competition as possible. We ask that you please be patient with us as we work through this mammoth task. There is no timeline currently on when we will finalise everything, but rest assured we are doing our best to get through it ASAP. Please understand we are a volunteer-based organization and we will send out more information as soon as it is available.
We would like to acknowledge the huge amount of support we have had from our members over the last week, it is greatly appreciated.
If you have any inquiries, please contact our Administration Manager Lara Long [email protected]. As you can imagine, Lara is extremely busy at present and may not get back to you straight away, but she will endeavour to answer everyone’s inquires.

manlytouchKeymasterHappy Long Weekend!
On Monday 27 September the NSW Government announced that community sport would be permitted once the state reached the level of 80% of the eligible adult population (16+) being fully vaccinated against COVID.
This would come into effect on the Monday following the 80% target being reached, which is currently forecast to be Monday 25 October, however that date is subject to change pending vaccination levels.
Importantly, the current NSW Government 80% Roadmap indicates that participation in community sport upon its return would only be available to those adults (16+) who had been fully vaccinated, or children under the age of 16.
The Roadmap also indicates that from 1 December, community sport will be permitted for all people. However, it should be noted that this date is also indicative and could change.
Manly Touch attended a meeting with NSWTA on Thursday night and were advised that unfortunately the level of detail being provided by the Government is still not sufficient for us to provide absolute clarity on a number of questions we still have regarding a commencement date for our local competitions because of our size. Manly Touch are working very closely with NSWTA to obtain as much detail as possible, as early as possible, from the Government and this information will be passed on as soon as we have it. For now, a brief summary is as follows:
What we know:
- Community sport is currently not permitted in any part of NSW;
- Community sport can recommence from Monday 25 October (to be confirmed) for fully vaccinated adults and any children under the age of 16;
- Community sport can recommence from 1 December for all people
What we don’t know:
- Whether community sport after Monday 25 October will fall under the requirement of needing to be a ‘COVID Safe Event’ (as referenced in the Roadmap) with a limit of 200 people;
- If this is the case given our Senior Summer competition currently exceeds 200 participants, we will need to implement a number of measures to adhere to the Public Health Order, but we believe that we will be able to start our Senior Summer competitions in early November;
- Whether community sport after 1 December will fall under the requirement of needing to be a ‘COVID Safe Event’ (as referenced in the Roadmap) with a limit of 1000 people;
- If this is the case given our Junior Summer competition currently exceeds 1000 participants, we will need to implement a number of measures to adhere to the Public Health Order similar to our 2020 Junior Competition and we will be unable to start until after December 1. However, given Senior State Cup is scheduled for 3-5 December this gives us one week in which we could play touch before we break for the Xmas and New Year Period, which is not practical;
- The specific requirements of the COVID Safe plan that will be needed and if these are different to previous COVID Safe plans;
- How vaccination status of participants (players, coaches, referees, officials etc) and spectators will be checked, recorded, monitored, and enforced by our volunteers, committee and organisers;
- What happens if a positive COVID case attends a community sporting event of fully vaccinated people, does the event get shut down with everyone needing to isolate?
There is no doubt that there are significantly more questions than those shown above, and we will endeavour to provide more clarity at the earliest opportunity.
At this stage we understand there is a meeting with all key players (NSWTA, NSW Health, Sport NSW) this Wednesday in which we hope there will be more clarification on the above.
The best-case scenario for us is that the number limits for ‘Organised Outdoor Gathering’ do not apply to community sport which would mean we could potentially kick off our touch season for not only seniors but junior participants in early November. If this is the case, there will be very quick and strict deadlines on team registrations so that we have enough time to get our competitions underway as quickly as possible. In the interim, we would encourage you to organise your teams and be ready to go at short notice.
As always, Manly Touch will continue to provide updates as circumstances change.
For any further information, please feel free to contact [email protected] for assistance.
manlytouchKeymasterThe 2022 NSWTA Junior State Cup Northern Conference will take place in February 2022 in Port Macquarie followed by the NSWTA State Finals (details TBC). Manly Touch is seeking expressions of interest for players wishing to trial for this event in U10-U18 boys and girls age groups. Please note that NSWTA has confirmed that U8 and Development teams will not play in the Northern Conference and State Finals in 2022. Manly Touch is planning a condensed JSC campaign due to COVID and we will be governed by the various authorities including but not limited to the Government Dept of Health, Office for Sport, and NSW Touch.

manlytouchKeymasterManly Touch would like to advise that we are continuing to monitor the current situation on the restrictions around community sport.
We are desperate for our members to get back out on the field to play some touch footy.
Although the path back to community sport is still unknown, what we can give you is our commitment that once we are given the all clear from the NSW Government and NSWTA we will proceed with our Junior and Senior summer registration process. However, we will still need to adhere to the Public Health Order and any restrictions that are placed on us. We will also need to be flexible with the timeframes that are available to us. This may mean that our Junior competition could be held either pre and/or post the New Year, similar to our Senior Competition.
To the players, coaches and referees involved in Vawdon Cup, unfortunately we are in a holding pattern. But what we do know is NSWTA will do everything they can to hold this event. However, given we are running out of weekends, it is likely that Vawdon Cup could be held over just one weekend. This changes your fitness requirements (one game per Friday night vs multiple games over the weekend). You need to have a plan in place so you are ready to go with limited notice and preparation. Your coaches will be reaching out to you to discuss this.
Likewise, we have every intention of sending teams to 2021 Senior State Cup and 2022 Junior State Cup and are working to a plan that these events will take place as per the original dates published by NSWTA. In the coming days we will be releasing a Player Expression of Interest for both SSC and JSC, and also an EOI for our SSC Coaches. Please keep a look out for these and complete them as soon as possible.
We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding. Continue to stay safe, keep fit and healthy, and make sure you take steps to improve your mental fitness via Gotcha4Life.
We look forward to seeing you soon, but if you have any questions please feel free to reach out via [email protected]
