Manly Touch would like to advise that we are continuing to monitor the current situation on the restrictions around community sport.

We are desperate for our members to get back out on the field to play some touch footy.

Although the path back to community sport is still unknown, what we can give you is our commitment that once we are given the all clear from the NSW Government and NSWTA we will proceed with our Junior and Senior summer registration process. However, we will still need to adhere to the Public Health Order and any restrictions that are placed on us. We will also need to be flexible with the timeframes that are available to us. This may mean that our Junior competition could be held either pre and/or post the New Year, similar to our Senior Competition.

To the players, coaches and referees involved in Vawdon Cup, unfortunately we are in a holding pattern. But what we do know is NSWTA will do everything they can to hold this event. However, given we are running out of weekends, it is likely that Vawdon Cup could be held over just one weekend. This changes your fitness requirements (one game per Friday night vs multiple games over the weekend). You need to have a plan in place so you are ready to go with limited notice and preparation. Your coaches will be reaching out to you to discuss this.

Likewise, we have every intention of sending teams to 2021 Senior State Cup and 2022 Junior State Cup and are working to a plan that these events will take place as per the original dates published by NSWTA. In the coming days we will be releasing a Player Expression of Interest for both SSC and JSC, and also an EOI for our SSC Coaches. Please keep a look out for these and complete them as soon as possible.

We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding. Continue to stay safe, keep fit and healthy, and make sure you take steps to improve your mental fitness via Gotcha4Life.

We look forward to seeing you soon, but if you have any questions please feel free to reach out via [email protected]

Manly Warringah Touch Association is excited to announce that Gotcha4Life have joined our Club as our Community Partner.

Our community’s mental health and well-being is extremely important, and now more than ever with the current lockdown being extended, families and businesses are experiencing financial stress, homeschooling pressures, etc. To put in perspective to date in Australia there have been close to 1,000 Covid-19 deaths but there are well over 3,000 deaths by suicide each year.

Gotcha4Life is an Australian mental fitness not-for-profit foundation taking action to engage, educate and empower to end suicide.

“Manly Touch have always prided themselves in having the fittest teams on the touch field, but we want to do more to help engage and improve our members’ mental fitness” said President Manly Touch, Ian Kalms.

“This is a socially responsible, important and positive partnership for Manly Touch members, families and community.” Ian added.

Gotcha4Life will provide a valuable source of information, helpful tips, and tools to use and inspiration for building our member’s mental fitness.

Gus Worland, Gotcha4Life founder said he is extremely excited about the prospect of connecting with the Manly Touch community in a new and dynamic way through the partnership. “Our mission is for everyone to have a Gotcha4Life Mate – a go-to person you can rely on and talk to about anything when times are tough, so no one has to worry alone” he added.

Manly Touch would encourage everyone to get outside and exercise to keep fit, as best you can, and continue to reach out to your touch football mates and others in your community on a regular basis to make sure they are OK. It is important we stay connected during these times. Stay in touch with family and friends, share your feelings with loved ones and trusted people from your community and invite them to share with you. Remember to also take a break from the news and social media.

Please also adhere to the COVID-19 safe guidelines as set out by the current NSW Government guidelines and consider getting vaccinated as soon as possible.

Manly Warringah Touch Association (MWTA) would like to announce that Mel Vayro has stepped down from her role as Senior Representative Director of MWTA.

Mel was appointed as Senior Representative Director 5.5 years ago and during this time Manly Touch has won the NSWTA Senior State Cup Club Championship 4 times.

MWTA President Ian Kalms acknowledged the valuable contribution from Mel over the last five years. “For a large club like Manly, the Senior Representative Director role is one of the most challenging as it encompasses both the Vawdon Cup and Senior State Cup tournaments. Being the Senior Representative Director can be a tireless role, and Mel has shown dedication and diligence throughout her tenure, leading our senior representative teams through some of our most celebrated Vawdon and Senior State Cup campaigns,” he said.

Mel’s contribution to Manly Touch has been enormous, seeing her balancing her role as Senior Representative Director whilst continuing to play, coach and referee for the club both locally and at State tournaments. Mel and her beautiful daughter Harper have moved to the Gold Coast to pursue new opportunities and we wish them every success and happiness – they both will be greatly missed by their Manly Family.

As a result of her resignation, a vacancy existed on the MWTA Management Committee. As per the MWTA Constitution, the MWTA Executive has appointed Kerrie Doyle and Lynda Robertson as joint Senior Representative Directors.

Both Kerrie and Lynda bring with them a passion and love for touch football.

Kerrie and Lynda are long-time members of Manly Touch and have participated at all levels of our game. Firstly as players in our local competitions, at a State level for Manly Touch over a long period and they have also achieved a number of higher representative honours.

“Kerrie and Lynda’s work-related expertise and skillsets mean they will compliment each other perfectly and I have no doubt that they will make a valuable and positive contribution to Manly Touch in the Senior Representative Director’s role. The Executive would like to thank Kerrie and Lynda for taking on one of the more challenging volunteer roles we have and look forward to working with them”.

    Ian said.

Manly Warringah Touch Association (MWTA) would like to announce that Mel Scranage and Elizabeth Forrest have stepped down from their roles as Treasurer and Secretary respectively of MWTA.

Mel Scranage was appointed as Interim Secretary 3.5 years ago and later was elected to the Manly Touch Executive Committee as our Treasurer in 2018.

At the same time, Elizabeth Forrest was elected to the MWTA Executive Committee as our Secretary.

MWTA President Ian Kalms acknowledged the valuable contributions and input of Mel and Elizabeth over the last three years. “Being on the Manly Touch Executive Committee is one of the toughest volunteer roles of all, and both have performed their roles with dedication, diligence and honour. Both Mel and Elizabeth have given their time and resources to our club and have been part of some significant successes that Manly Touch has had,” he said.

“During their tenure, there has been significant growth and improved service offerings for our members. As a club we have grown our participation numbers and revenues by over 25% in just two years, we now offer an U7s competition, C grade in most of our junior competitions, with D and E grades in our Senior Competitions which improves our members’ experience at grassroots level. On the back of the enormous growth in both our Junior and Senior summer competitions, we have experienced a 50% increase in the number of teams competing in our 2021 winter competition which is an outstanding result. We hold both the Junior and Senior State Cup Club Championships and NSWTA Affiliate of the Year, we have had increased grant and sponsorship acquisitions plus we now have a refurbished canteen, water refill station, new amenity building at Nolan Reserve for members to use, and most importantly we now have a true home in being a co-tenant of the Christian Brothers Clubhouse.”

“We would not have been able to accomplish and achieve what we have done recently without Mel and Elizabeth’s amazing efforts as part of our Executive team. Mel and Elizabeth will be truly missed by myself and the rest of the Executive, however, we are sure they will still play a part in our success moving forward in other volunteer capacities.”

As a result of their resignations, two casual vacancies existed on the MWTA Executive Committee.

Therefore as per the MWTA Constitution, the MWTA Executive has appointed Graham Knights and Sarah Peattie as interim Executive Committee members until the next MWTA Annual General Meeting.

“Graham Knights is our past President and therefore brings a wealth of knowledge about the club’s operations and history which is always great to have, but it is particularly exciting to have a current Premier League player in Sarah Peattie wishing to contribute back to the club and will provide a direct voice for our elite level athletes and younger generations. Sarah’s background is in Human Resources which will also be invaluable for the club moving forward. We look forward to working with Sarah and Graham with some even more exciting times ahead,” Ian said.

Sarah and Graham join Manly Touch President Ian and Vice Presidents Kate Perrett and Stuart Geros to make up the Executive Committee.

For more information please contact Ian Kalms, MWTA President via [email protected]
